The Seven Deadly Sins- Sloth
The Mexican Way by Einar and Jamex de la Torre
By Dan Mølgaard, Ebeltoft, Denmark
For a number of years Einar and Jamex de la Torre have gained a lot of attention within the field of contemporary glass with their unique and unorthodox style and aesthetics. The two brothers are children of a very colourful culture with rich imagery. A background that cannot be denied- their works are rich in references and elements found in the multifaceted history of Mexico. Both artists are declared "anti-minimalists" and are working with what they call the "ultra-baroque". Where the minimalist tradition cuts to the bone and throws out everything in excess, the baroque does the exact opposite. It adds on layers and overwhelms with its diversity and ambiguity.
